WILDEST DREAM GYPSY HORSES |
|
Be warned! If you meet one of these fuzzy horses that look like something out of a little girl’s fantasy, you’ll find yourself totally captivated and if one finds it’s way into your life, it’s likely to turn into two or three or….. They are, indeed, addicting. Ask any Gypsy Horse owner! |

Known most commonly in this Country as Gypsy “Cobs” or Gypsy “Vanners”, this small draft type horse was bred and developed by the Romany Travelers in the UK to pull the colorful wagons called Vardos. Known in the UK as “Proper Cobs”, “Colored Cobs”, “Irish Cobs” and “Tinkers”, these horses are best known for their beauty and calm temperament.
Some call them “magical”. Well, silly as it sounds, there is a magic about them. The “magic” to me anyway, is the fact that my horses enjoy my company as much as I do theirs. Super intelligent, (sometimes too smart!) they are willing to do almost anything you ask of them. A little stubborn at times, but once you teach them something, they rarely forget it. I tell people my horses have a “sense of humor”. They don’t understand until they meet one. I think the magic is, for me, just as much the personality of the breed as it is the beauty.

Gypsy Horses come in all sizes and colors. The traditional size is probably from about 14 to 14.3, but they can run from 12 hands all the way to 16 hands and possibly a bit more. (The Drum Horse, is usually much larger at 16 + hands and a cross between Gypsy Horse and one of the Draft breeds. For further information on Drums, I would suggest visiting one of the Drum Registries.)
The most common color pattern for a Gypsy Horse is the Black and White Tobiano. But all colors are acceptable, (including solids) and seen in the breed, including some with Appaloosa coloring. Blue eyes, as well as partial blue eyes are also common,
